How to use this Creation

The McClarence Outfitters shop can be found in New Atlantis in the Spaceport area between your ship and the Viewport bar. Speaking to the large robot inside, and asking him a few questions will trigger the first quest.

Additional quests to unlock features will become available as you make more and more use of the Legendary Swap System.

Spacesuit and Skins

After completing Jason’s initial quest, you’ll receive the McClarence Spacesuit and Helmet. These will start out as simple non-legendary items, perfect for use with the Legendary Swap system.

Turning in enough items to the Legendary Swap system, described in the next section, will trigger a quest that will reward a custom pack as well.

At a Spacesuit Workbench, you’ll find access to the typical mod options, as well as a series of Skins. Additional Skins for the UC Vanguard, Crimson Fleet, and Freestar Collective will become available as you join those factions.

Legendary Swap System

After the first quest, you’ll have an option in dialog with Jason to [Extract Mod], selecting this will have him teach you about the system and unlock it for use.

The first step is to hand over an unwanted Rare, Epic, or Legendary item (initially he will only accept Spacesuits and Helmets, but additional options will unlock as you engage more with the system). He will then ask you which Mod (our in-universe name for the beneficial effects on legendary items) you want to extract from it. If you opted to hand him multiple items, you’ll loop through the dialog selecting an option from each one in turn.

The item will then be destroyed and the selected mod will be available for installation in a different piece of gear.

To install it, place your item on the mannequin or appropriate rack near that mannequin, and speak to Jason. He will have an [Install Mod] dialog option. Choosing this will allow you to select from the mods you’d previously had him extract and, for a price, install it into the item you put on the mannequin/rack.

Once a mod is installed into a new piece of equipment, that mod will no longer be available for installation unless you have him extract a copy from another item.

Mods can generally only be installed to the same type of equipment they were extracted from, but some can work in multiple equipment types. As you extract different mods, details about what they do and where they can be installed will be added to a terminal behind the main counter inside the shop.

Item Duplication

Once the [Duplicate Item] option is unlocked, you can hand over an item to purchase a copy of it. This copy will differ in two ways:

  1. The copy will have no legendary effects on it.

This becomes a blank slate for installing whatever mods you’ve extracted before.

  2. The copy will be leveled as if the player just found it.

Meaning the item stats may upgrade from what the original item was. This is a great way to take unique one-time items, such as the Mantis gear, and level it up if you had done the quest to receive it at lower level. Most items have 4 or 5 tiers available.
New Legendary Effects

Jason is relying on you to bring him unwanted items to continue R&D for his business. The more items you have him [Extract Mods] from, the more likely you are to trigger additional missions, and on occasion be gifted an item with a brand new legendary effect not available in the base game.

After unlocking a new legendary effect, Jason will periodically sell additional items with that effect in his normal vendor stock so that you have further opportunities to gain more of those mods if you wish to install them on additional pieces of gear.
